Today’s FakeComicCon featured a dangerous knife fight at Brisbane Convention Centre. The incident involves 40 cosplayers. However, two were critically injured.

The incident broke out when cosplayers dressed as wolverine who happened to wear real knives on their hands challenged the star wars cosplayers to battle.

The incident lasted for 20 minutes before the security broke it up. 12 people were injured, eight people have been sent to Royal Brisbane Hospital, where two remains in critical condition.

The two people who remain in critical condition have been identified. An 18-year-old male from Brisbane and the other, a 23-year-old female from Townsville.

FakeComicCon’s immediate thoughts are with those who have been injured and their families. CEO of FakeComicCon expresses her concern for those people who are involved by commenting on the incident.

“I am very upset that this has happened – an incident such as this is not in the spirit of our event. One of the aims of the ComicCon series is to give people a safe place to come, play, and meet like-minded people.”

FakeComicCon will continue to work with relevant authorities to investigate this incident to ensure it is not repeated.

FakeComicCon is a national event that travels around Australia such as Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, and Perth. Last year in Brisbane, the event had more than 30,000 people attended.

  1. Hi Clarence, I don’t believe that the Who, What, When, Where and Why are needed to be individually stated in the media release but rather put into the lead sentence. Other than that great media release.

    1. Hi Nic,

Sorry, this was a mistake when I was doing the media release. I put those in the paragraph to remind me what I need to include in the media release but I forgot to get rid of it. Thanks for the heads up, it has been fixed.

      Cheers,
      Clarence

  2. Hi Clarence,

I enjoyed your media release but just have some feedback to improve it. I think the release could have been enhanced if you used more direct quote from the CEO and maybe quoted another source.

    Hope this helps,

    Cody.
